Ministries
We invite you to join the spiritual life of Immaculate Conception. Our ministries offer many ways for you to get involved.
Adult Catechism
Organize and participate in activities to instruct a variety of individuals in the Catholic Faith, including returning inactive Catholics, adult Catholics preparing for Confirmation and those who have been instructed in other faith traditions and desire to be in full communion with the Catholic Church.
Altar Servers
Assist the priest during Mass, helping at the presentation of the gifts, carrying the crucifix and candles in procession, and assisting in other aspects of the liturgy to enhance the noble simplicity and reverent efficiency of our liturgical celebrations.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Lay Eucharistic ministers assist with the distribution of the holy Eucharist at Mass, as well as bringing the sacrament to the sick and shut-in within the parish.
Lectors
Proclaim the scriptures at Mass with reverence, understanding, and conviction.
Greeters/Ushers
Welcome parishioners warmly with a smile and a friendly greeting, distribute programs, pay special attention to the needs of visitors to the parish, seat parishioners and visitors, help families and parishioners to carry the gifts at the offertory procession, pass collection baskets, and ensure an orderly flow at the time of holy Communion.
Music Ministry
Music is deeply woven into the fabric of our parish. If you wish to learn more about our music ministry, please contact Colleen Daly Eberhardt, colleenjdaly@gmail.com
Ladies Sodality
The Ladies Sodality of Immaculate Conception has a strong tradition of support for the parish and the wider Shaw and District of Columbia community. If you would like to foster your devotion to Mary, our Blessed Mother, through service, outreach and fellowship, please contact Francine Graves at 202-635-0055.
Men's Club
Men of Immaculate Conception, don’t miss an opportunity to support parish families and youth by joining the Men’s Club. Together with your fellow parishioners, some of whom have been members for decades, you can serve the community through fundraising, hosting special events, and providing opportunities for development, service and fellowship. For more information, please contact Bill Brown at 301-516-1401.
Youth Group and Young Adults
Instruct young men and women in the Catholic Faith and help young adults grow in faith through friendship and participation in parish religious and social events, discussions, and prayer.
Social Outreach
Assist the poor and needy of the Shaw neighborhood by offering a modest food pantry, contacting the sick and shut-in to assess their needs.
